The Sibillini mountains Villa Borghetti is on the doorstep of the spectacular Monti Sibillini, a chain of limestone mountains including 20 peaks over 2,000 metres. The Monti Sibillini National Park is about forty kilometres in length and extends into Umbria. This is the kingdom of the Sibyl, a prophetess who was said to have lived in a cave on Monte Sibilla; and the demonaical lake of Pilato where, according to legend, the body of Pontius Pilate lies, dragged there by a herd of buffalo. The magnificent Monte Sassotetto (‘rocky roof’) watches over Villa Borghetti. Within half an hour’s drive you can be there, experiencing one of Le Marche’s main ski resorts by winter or the breathtaking scenery and wildlife at any time of the year. Nearby is the Lago di Fiastra, at the heart of the Monti Sibillini and close to the small town of the same name. |
