Amandola, on the SS78 south of Sarnano, is a busy and attractive town entered through the Baroque Porta San Giacomo.  If you are here in the first week of September, you can watch some of the many events during the annual International Theatre Festival.

Ascoli Piceno is the major centre of southern Le Marche.  Although it is relatively large compared with other towns in the area, the historic centre can easily be seen on foot.  A good place to start is the Piazza del Popolo, the travertine-paved main square.  La Quintana, Ascoli’s mediaeval jousting tournament, takes place there on the first Sunday of August.
